March 23, 2005: Slashdot!
||||||||||
I went to the dentist Wednesday. A few hours after that, with one side of my face numb, I find out Slashdot has linked to SolarDeathRay.com! There is definitely some kind of symmetry to these two events...

Here is a link to what people on Slashdot were saying about the Solar Death Ray, some of which is pretty funny. For those who don't know, Slashdot is a way for people to nominate websites for what can only be described as a "massive beatdown." Want me to quantify that? Check out this graph:

The site would have probably buckled if it hadn't been for some quick thinking by Mike. Race and Tom also played a crucial part in keeping the site from imploding under the unflinching gaze of Slashdot. Apparently, Coral helped ease the burden on the site also, but I don't have any numbers for traffic that went there. I've had to upgrade my bandwidth twice in the last two days, which is even more amazing considering this website has less than 5 megabytes of total content! Nonetheless, I consider my brief Slashdot exposure to be a right of passage, and I feel as though I've earned a new nerd merit badge. As of right now (4:00 Thursday, March 24, 2005), there have been over 205,000 visitors to the site (based on unique page views of index.html)! Thanks again to everyone who has visited the site, told a friend about the Solar Death Ray, and sent me an e-mail or a donation! Postscript: The Solar Death Ray stood up to Slashdot, but will Slashdot stand up to the Solar Death Ray? Stay tuned....
