| The cell phone: boon or bane? Here's a better question: How does it stand up to the Solar Death Ray? I bought this broken cell phone for $3 at a local store. It was a little difficult explaining to the clerk that I wanted to buy a broken phone. Other than the fact that it's busted this phone was perfectly functional. I removed the battery pack before putting it in the death ray. The phone started to smoke and melt a little bit, but then nothing really happened for a while. Frustrated with the lack of massive destruction, I started to look around the area for a rock. I figured if I couldn't melt the phone I could at least smash it up. After all, I want to make these pages worth your time! Anyway, as I was looking for a rock, Tom kept taking pictures, and the cell phone slowly succumbed to the power of 112 suns. As you can see in the last photos, the keypad is toast, the flip-up hinge was about to give out, and there is even some heat damage on the back of the phone. Take that, ring tones! Thanks to my brother Gordon for the suggestion. |
