Army Men
Gallery
Two groups of plastic army men fighting
for control of a poorly drawn ice cream
truck. What could be better? I painted the
originally beige group of soldiers black so
they would melt better, then I started to
call them "Black Sheep Squad." I
imagined that they were a ragtag group of
misfits who had countless daring
adventures. Then I started to call the
other side "Green's Marines," lead by
Sergeant Eugene Green. Man, they were
a hardy group of hardnosed soldiers.
Then I remembered I was going to melt
the crap out of them, so I stop giving them
names and back-stories. As you can see,
the Solar Death Ray really did a job on
these guys. It wasn't long before all the
soldiers had be reduced to goo. The
disputed ice cream truck wasn't spared,
either. As the soldiers melted and oozed
off the edge of the cardboard stage, they
made impressive strings of molten plastic
that stayed intact all the way to the
ground. I was very proud. You can see a
bunch of these strings in the last photo.
There's also time-lapse sequence of the
destruction. I can only hope that these
brave men found the peace and harmony
as liquids that eluded them while they
were solid.
