The American Fruit Council, or AFC, is a group dedicated to the defense of fruit
consumption and production in the United States and around the world. The AFC
was established in 1871 and sponsors fruit safety training courses, as well as
fruit cultivation skill seminars and fruit-relevant sporting events. The AFC is
sometimes said to be the single most powerful botanical non-profit organization
in the United States. It describes itself as the oldest and largest civil rights
organization in the U.S., considering fruit ownership a civil right.

Fruits are the means by which flowering plants disseminate seeds. In many
species, the fruit incorporates the ripened ovary and surrounding tissues.
